Cafetiere Sizing

Cafetieres really do come in all different shapes and sizes. From the classic metallic look to some more modern and colourful twists. A small cafetiere, usually a 2-3 cup device, is a great option for drinkers who want a few smaller brews with friends or for an individual who wants a few good mugs of coffee. Large cafetieres, which can come in as big as 12-cup cafetieres, are great for hosting and when the family all come home for some together time!

Cafetiere, or "French Press?"

Usually in the U.K. we would call one of these a cafetiere coffee maker instead of a French Press. But did you know that a French Press isn’t actually French? A version of the French Press coffee maker, which actually didn’t have a seal around the press element, was first created by French designers in 1852. However, the version of the French Press that we all know and love today was patented and created by Italians in 1929!

How does the Cafetiere work?

A cafetiere, or French press, makes coffee using a simple method. Coarsely ground coffee mixes with hot water inside the container. Then, you press a plunger down. This separates the coffee grounds from the brewed coffee using a mesh filter.

How does it work? The cafetiere uses immersion brewing, unlike some other methods. Immersion means the coffee grounds sit fully in the hot water. The French Press coffee maker is a straightforward way to make a rich cup of coffee.
