Description
Dark coffee roasts are much darker brown in colour, some of them even look black when roasted just beyond dark and into “espresso roast”. The taste profile often matches the darker colours with tastes of chocolate and smokiness. Although the types of beans still shapes parts of the end flavour when dark roasting coffee, the flavour is almost entirely impacted by the roast itself. Those smoky undertones are the result of the cooking process, and not flavours you’d find within the coffee naturally.
Dark roasted coffees have been popular in Europe, which is the reason for names for dark roast that include Continental, Italian, French, and Spanish roasts.
The Coffees
Nicaragua Finca La Bastilla – Tasting notes of dark chocolate, butter, and hazelnut. Direct Trade, a UK exclusive, speciality graded, Rainforest Alliance, amazing fresh coffee. Situated within a mountainous natural reserve, this estate handpicks all coffee cherries based on the specific microclimates of each farm to enhance their quality. The estate features a fully vertically integrated processing system for accurate bean differentiation and sorting. In partnership with the Teach a Man to Fish charity, we sponsor three children to attend the on-site technical college of La Bastilla. This opportunity equips them with skills in tourism, animal husbandry, and farming. We take pride in the success of our initial students who have progressed to university.
Angel Of The North – Tasting notes of bold and creamy nougat and vanilla.
Aurora – Tasting notes of Chocolate, Caramel & Nuts. This blend is of 2 origins, being Brazil and Burundi, where deep caramel flavours have been created by Fire and Flow Roastery. Ibiraci, Brazil: Ibiraci, known as “the tree mother” in the Tupi language is renowned for its production of exceptional Brazilian coffees. The natural processing technique, combined with the ideal mix of altitude, rainfall, and temperature, contributes to a rich natural sweetness in the final cup. Akawa Project, Burundi: This coffee was created to aid coffee farmers in Burundi in improving their livelihoods and breaking free from poverty through sustainable and economically feasible means.

All that’s left to do is to choose the grind size that would best suit your brew style. Coffee grind size is important, as different brew methods need different grind coarseness in order to achieve the right extraction rates. Here’s a tip for you, in order to maximise the coffee taste in your cup, you should opt for beans and grind at home to make the drink as fresh as possible. In need of a grinder?Â
