Every independent café wants the best machine. What you actually need is the right machine for your volume, your team and your counter. La Cimbali’s traditional espresso range covers most of the UK market, and the M26, M40 and M200 sit at three clear levels. Here’s how we’d choose between them.

La Cimbali M26: the dependable workhorse

The Cimbali M26 is an ergonomic, versatile machine with a steel and ABS body and a thermal system built for quality in the cup. It comes in full-size and compact versions, and the compact 2 group is just 594mm wide, which is a big help on a tight counter. The simpler BE version uses a heat exchanger with a 5 litre Smart Boiler and a backlit electromechanical panel. The TE RE adds a digital service display, ThermoDrive temperature adjustment and optional TurboSteam Milk4.

It suits cafés, bakeries and restaurants that want proven reliability, straightforward training and a manageable footprint.

La Cimbali M40: the smart middle

The M40 is the newer machine in the range, designed as the successor to the M39. It shares its design language with the M200, with a die-cast aluminium and steel body, centrally placed groups with 220mm spacing and cold-touch steam wands. It adds La Cimbali’s ECO-SMART thermal system, a customisable digital interface and PGS grinder integration. TurboSteam Milk4 is optional, and it comes as a 2 or 3 group machine.

It suits busy cafés with mixed-experience teams that want consistency and lower energy use without going to flagship level.

La Cimbali M200: the flagship

The M200 is La Cimbali’s flagship traditional machine, designed by Valerio Cometti as the successor to the M100. It uses independent coffee boilers, so GT1 lets you set the temperature for each group, while the Profile version adds pressure profiling by button. The lowered structure and adjustable worktop are designed to keep baristas and customers in eye contact.

It suits specialty-led cafés that rotate single origins and want the machine to be part of the brand.
