The San Lorenzo indigenous group lives in the Rio Sucio municipality of Caldas, an area that was once dominated by FARC, ELN, and other armed groups seeking control over this vital region of Colombia. Because of this history, the area hasn’t been known for producing specialty coffee. However, as conditions improve and access gets easier, the high quality of the local coffee can now be highlighted.
The indigenous people hold a deep respect for Pacha Mama, believing the land is a living entity. They see it as their responsibility to care for the environment and minimize their impact while farming coffee, aiming to preserve it in its natural state. During harvest time, families come together with the community to pick ripe cherries.
To eliminate caffeine, the coffee beans are processed using sugarcane decaffeination.
