Tamping is the most variable step in espresso. Pressure, angle and levelness differ from barista to barista, and even from shot to shot. A Puqpress removes that variable.
What a Puqpress does
A Puqpress is an automatic tamper that applies the same, electronically set force every time, leaving a perfectly level bed of coffee. Models offer several tamping profiles, with force adjustable from 5kg to 30kg. The M3, for example, has five profiles, from P0 Speedy to P4 Single tamp, and a tamp takes just 2 to 3 seconds once the grinder has dosed.

The range splits into two families. The Q series are standalone units that work with any grinder, can be moved around the bar and have a footprint about the size of a pint glass. The M series sits directly underneath specific grinders, saving counter space.
- Q2: Puqpress designs the Q range for mid-volume cafés processing up to around 25kg of coffee a week, with five tamping profiles and a two-year warranty with unlimited tamps.
- M2: made for Victoria Arduino and Nuova Simonelli Mythos grinders.
- M3: made for the Mahlkönig E65S and E65S GbW.
- M4: made for the Fiorenzato F64 and F83.
- M5: made for the Mahlkönig E80 and E80 GbW.

Brackets and top plates extend compatibility to many other grinders, including Mazzer, Macap, Ceado, Anfim and others. Always confirm your exact grinder model before ordering, because Puqpress units are typically special order.
Getting the most from it
Tap the portafilter to level the grounds before tamping, and keep the tamping surface clean so coffee doesn’t stick. If you want to go further, pair it with an even distribution step.
