Tasting notes of chocolate, subtle florals, orange juice
Rachel Parsons, an engineer hailing from the North East, served as the inaugural President of the Women’s Engineering Society in Britain in 1919. A staunch advocate for women’s employment rights, she played a pivotal role as a prominent member of the National Council of Women, championing equal access to technical schools and colleges irrespective of gender. Additionally, Rachel Parsons was the top choice in the vote to name our women’s coffee, La Morena. La Morena is a coffee project focused on promoting gender equality, highlighting the contributions of 22 female farmers from Guatemala. In a coffee industry traditionally dominated by men in Guatemala, achieving gender parity remains a significant challenge. Unfortunately, women in Guatemala continue to face obstacles in competing and prospering within the coffee sector. Nevertheless, La Morena stands out as a product exclusively crafted by women farmers. For more information on our latest coffee offering, please visit our blog post.
Durham Coffee is a family-owned coffee roastery located in the heart of County Durham. Raised in Austria and Germany, where freshly brewed filter coffee is highly valued, Bernhard and Carina founded Kaffeehaus Amadeus in Lanchester in 2013. Their goal was to introduce a taste of Austrian coffee culture to County Durham by offering a variety of single origin beans and educating people in the North-East about specialty coffee and high-quality V60 filtered coffee. Nearly ten years later, this father-daughter duo continues to express their love for ethically sourced premium coffee through their Durham-based roastery.
By roasting specialty beans from around the world and distributing them throughout the UK to both home brewers and businesses, they aim to highlight the diverse range of flavors found in the specialty coffee sector. In addition to making quality coffee more accessible through educational courses, Durham Coffee strives to foster connections between individuals and the North-East with their heritage range coffees. Their hope is to inspire people to pause, savor the moment, and appreciate the taste while enjoying a cup of their coffee.
